We wanted to take a moment on the eve of Thanksgiving to jot down a few things about DC that we're thankful for. We often take for granted the amazing things our fair city has to offer and thought it'd be good to reflect on the things (some serious, some not) that we appreciate.
J is thankful for:
- Washington Monument (get well soon!)
- Taylor Gourmet risotto balls
- living and working in walkable Downtown
- Toki Underground classic ramen
- atrium at the National Portrait Gallery
- leaves that change color and fall from the trees
- DC Public Library
- early morning spin classes at Vida Fitness
- Trapeze School New York - Washington, DC
- ParkMobile parking meter app
- Jose Andres and his imaginative restaurants
- street vendor at 9th and G who waves every day
- 5 cent plastic bag tax
- (free!) Smithsonian
- little kids in puffy coats
- sloth bears at the National Zoo (RIP Merlin)
- Penn Quarter farmer's market
- all of the new friends we've made that makes DC feel like home
B is thankful for:
- to have a job that keeps a roof over my head, food on my plate, and does good for the world
- the Metro
- the Washington Post Express
- an embarrassment of good dining options (regardless of what New Yorkers would tell you)
- walking home from events at the Verizon Center
- the Capitol Building randomly showing up in my rear view mirror
- the view of the National Cathedral out our window
- lightning
- the city after a big snow storm
- fantastic architecture
- no skyscrapers
- the proximity to so many other cool places
- skies full of clouds (especially at dusk)
- the monuments at night
- the many distinct neighborhoods
- the prevalence of sports leagues
- eavesdropping on conversations that involve real issues and not the Kardashians
- the turkeys on the Hill and the turkey on my plate
